First post!
Just going to list a few things I’m working on at the moment with no further detail than that. Some things might get a longer post later, others, not.
Owncast
I’m setting up an Owncast server on my homelab k8s cluster. Normally I try and stream my Advent of Code adventures on Twitch. This year, I’m seeing if it would be feasible to stream with Owncast instead. Am I drawn to this option because it has Fediverse integration? Well, I’m not not doing it because of that.
Kubernetes
Setting up my homelab Kubernetes cluster. Right now, it’s a single node (an older NUC with an Atom processor). It really can’t handle … anything. But it works well enough to get me some more familiarity with running it. I set up the “cluster” with k3sup, which I will say was as easy as they claimed it would be. Surprising.
I’ve got some of the basics running,
- Cert Manager – is requesting/fetching SSL certificates for the things that want it.
- Prometheus – monitoring things. I don’t have Grafana or the like, and I have no alerting rules. But metrics are being collected!
- Home Assistant – mostly just to play around with it. Normally Google Assistant does everything I need, but (a) I’ve heard friends raving about it, and (b) it has some integrations that aren’t otherwise supported.
Getting meta, if you are reading this, it is working. The nginx instance hosting these files is running on my home Kubernetes cluster.
Mastodon
I’m using it as a user already, but I want to play around with the server-side of it. I do NOT plan to make my own instance a primary location for me. Just going to use it to experiment and learn more about ActivityPub
Robots
Long time back-burner project of mine is to make a quadruped robot. Mostly, I’m using it as a vehicle to learn and practice CAD, embedded fw dev, 3D printing (with a purpose), etc.
mono3
My Go monorepo. I’ve been experimenting with various data structures, support libraries, Raft consensus, a distributed filesystem, lots of RPC convenience stuff, some utilities to do format conversions, and more. Repo is private and likely to stay that way.
Hugo
Getting meta again, I’m learning the tool Hugo which I’m using to render this site.
